CLIFFORD WRIGHT (1919 - 1999) grew up on the American west coast near Seattle, where he studied with, among others, Walter Reese and Mark Toby. After having worked for the Seattle Art Museum for three years, he left for New York in autumn 1946. A year later he received his first grant from the artists' colony Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York. Here he met the Danish writer Elsa Gress. After the end of his stay at Yaddo he emigrated to Denmark in 1956, where he married Elsa Gress.

Together they established the artist colony "Decenter" in Marienborg on the isle of Møn, a culturel breathing hole for artists of all kinds and nationalities. The colony was named ironically with respect to the politicans' mania of "cultural centres".

Clifford Wright had exhibitions in cities all over the Northern hemisphere, among others in New York, Brussels, Paris, Copenhagen, Aalborg and Stockholm.
